Notes from our January, 2026 meeting:

SBE Chapter 20 held our monthly meeting Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 at WPXI-TV 4145 Evergreen Rd, Pittsburgh. There were 11 members and guests in attendance.

We started with Secretary and Chair Reports. A reminder, the SBE encourages you to pay your dues online this year. The PAB has announced their offer of complimentary SBE Member Plus Membership for all PAB member station engineers.

For today’s meeting we had Jeff Nautel presenting on IT Security for the broadcast facility. This covered helpful tools and programs for checking or monitoring your security, mapping your networks, different considerations for VMWare vs Containers (Docker) and VPNs and network partitioning among other helpful tips.

Future Chapter 20 meetings will have a presentation from Dan Griffin from Netgear AV in March and Bill Bennett from Enco in April.

It was decided to meet again Wednesday February 11th at noon in the WPXI Executive Conference Room.

Our March 11, 2026 meeting will feature a presentation by Dan Griffin of Netgear AV. The topics for that meeting include:

  1. Introduction to NETGEAR’s AVoIP/Broadcast product line
  2. Overview of broadcast industry partnerships (we work with brands like Ross, Riedel, ClearCom, Solid State Logic, Calrec, Lawo, Evertz, Vizrt, etc)
  3. Tips and tricks on designing and deploying AVoIP for TV, radio, and live production
  4. Live demonstration of our Engage controller, showcasing how any engineer or technician can deploy a network in minutes

Our April 8, 2026 meeting will feature a presentation from Bill Bennett from ENCO.
